“Pacha”, como muchos otros léxicos de la cosmovisión andina de América del Sur, es un concepto que no encaja directamente en ningún molde occidental y cuyas traducciones y transliteraciones nos dejan un profundo deseo de traspasar nuestras fronteras lingüísticas. Igualmente elusivos permanecen los tres conceptos que dividen las esferas de los pachas de los países andinos, siendo ‘Ukhu’, aquel pacha que representa - en la medida en que podamos sostenerlo en palabras ajenas - el "mundo interior", o “mundo de abajo”, aquel que se encuentra asociado con la muerte y "lo subterráneo" así como también con la fertilidad (o la posibilidad de la nueva vida).
Los sellos discográficos, Eck Echo y MATRACA, colaboran por vez primera para presentar el 21 de junio esta compilación con novedosos materiales sonoros que profundizan en el concepto de UKHU Pacha mediante las visiones de productores de primer nivel unidos por el cordón umbilical geográfico de nuestros países andinos. Nuestra visión andeo-futurista ha sido co-curada por la artista Ira Zema procedente de Puno, a orillas del lago Titicaca y puerta de ingreso a la cultura aymara. La inmersión visual a nuestro mundo “Ukhu” corre a cargo del artista Nilton Vela en cuya ilustración vemos una rendición de Supay, los demonios, o quizás ángeles, que habitan las profundidades del Ukhu Pacha.

Matraca and Eck Echo announce the release of UKHU: andean bass compilation
The music labels Matraca (Lima) and Eck Echo (Berlin) join forces to release on June 21st a deeply-rooted compilation of contemporary Andean electronic music with novel tracks from top producers from countries such as Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Chile. The futuristic gaze into the cultures that shaped much of the worldview of modern Southamerica has been co-curated by artist IraZema, hailing from Puno, at the shores of the mythical Titicaca Lake, likewise the gateway into the enigmatic Aymara Culture. The artwork that takes us inside the "Ukhu" (the inner world of the Andean cosmogony) has been developed by Puno artist Nilton Vela, who renders the Supay - a demon -or maybe an angel- that thrives in the nether regions of the Ukhu Pacha.
"Pacha" is like many other Andean own words of South America a concept that defies any direct western categorization and any attempt to translate this concept leaves us with a profound desire to reach beyond our own linguistic borders. Out of the three concepts that conform the pachas as recounted by Andean cultures, the 'Ukhu" that represent the inner, deep, invisible, world, also associated with death and the underground but at the same time with fertility and the possibilities of new life.
